Mick is a Viticulturist at Wine Network Consulting, with 24 years’ experience in vineyard development, operations and management across a large range of regions. An expert in high-end and commercial viticulture, he has been responsible for growing grapes for some of Australia’s most recognised and award winning still and sparkling wines.

Much of this was developed during his 8 years as Vineyard Operations Manager at Domaine Chandon, where he was responsible for managing all aspects of their Victorian vineyards. This included significant planting and redevelopment of renowned cool climate vineyards at Whitlands, the Strathbogie Ranges and the Yarra Valley. Mick also worked with Brown Brothers for 11 years, progressing from Assistant Vineyard Manager, to Viticulturist, before becoming Vineyard Manager in Tasmania’s Tamar Valley.

Mick applies a practical approach to viticulture, with a focus on improving operational efficiencies and profitability through process improvement strategies, training and new technology implementation. He has a keen interest in vineyard sustainability, optimising production and quality through constructive land management.

Mick has previously been a member of the Wine Yarra Valley Technical Committee and has worked with a range of industry bodies and research organisations, including Sustainable Winegrowing Australia, EcoVineyards and the University of Tasmania. He has also been a regular guest speaker at technical workshops and assisted in the organisation of field days and industry events.

To further his knowledge of land management and to improve the sustainability of vineyards and agriculture more widely, Mick recently completed a Certificate IV in Conservation and Ecosystem Management. Mick holds a Post-Graduate Diploma in Wine Technology and Viticulture from the University of Melbourne and an Advanced Diploma of Horticulture Management from the University of Sydney.
