One of the founders and a former Director of Wine Network Consulting for over 30 years, Gary took a step back in 2025 to become an Associate Consultant. He remains one of Australia’s most respected wine professionals and in 2020 was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to oenology as a winemaker, consultant and judge, and to professional associations.
Gary has extensive experience in senior winemaking and management roles, wine-show judging, as well as wine research and extension and continues to provide advice on all aspects of wine production and business. He has maintained a focus on innovation throughout his career, establishing Wine Network Technology (later Memstar) with fellow director David Wollan.
Gary has degrees in Biochemistry and Wine Science and was in the first intake of the Wine Science course at Riverina CAE (now CSU) in 1975. He has been a long-term advocate for the Australian wine industry, holding numerous roles including as a founding member and former president of the ASVO and now as a Fellow of the Society.
