Head Winemaker

One of the most exciting roles in the burgeoning UK wine industry, The Grange, Hampshire is seeking a Head Winemaker. The successful applicant will start by overseeing the fit-out of their brand new winery in preparation for its inaugural vintage. The vineyard was planted in 2011 and the first wines, which were released from 2018, are already doing well in competition and attracting attention in trade and media. Commencing in early 2021 this is a rare opportunity to steer a meticulous, quality-focussed house from its early years.

The Grange Estate belongs to the Baring family and sits 7 miles to the east of Winchester in the southern county of Hampshire. At the centre of the broadly arable, 1200ha estate sits a semi-ruined, neo-Classical mansion that hosts an internationally renowned 5-week opera festival in the Summer.

Reporting to the Managing Director, the Head Winemaker will oversee all winemaking operations for the estate and clients, including financial and management reporting, efficient, safe winery management and market support activity. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 10 years’ experience, a high level of professionalism, attention to detail and the energy for a hands-on winemaking role of this nature.

The role will involve light domestic travel plus some representation at promotional events.

This is a unique winemaking role within a classic rural estate and the remuneration package is commensurate with the experience and drive required.
