Yabby Lake has built a formidable reputation among critics, judges, collectors and the trade alike. Yabby Lake made history in 2013 when its Block 1 Pinot Noir became the first Pinot ever to win the Jimmy Watson Trophy – a moment that not only elevated their profile but also marked a turning point for the variety in Australia. That win was the culmination of years of vision, care, and serious investment in the vineyard. Yabby Lake’s trophy cabinet continues to grow, with regular show success across the country, including its recent success at the 2025 National Wine Show – taking out the Shiraz Trophy for its 2023 Single Vineyard Shiraz from its sister estate, Heathcote Estate.
The Yabby Lake winemaking team collectively has more than 50 vintages worth of experience at the property, led by General Manager and Chief Winemaker, Tom Carson. Their understanding of site, season and craft runs deep. The culture is grounded, collaborative, and focused in its pursuit of quality – and it’s only getting stronger. After a couple of challenging seasons, significant investment has been made in the vineyard, and the results are already showing renewed energy, lifted performance, and a clear plan for the future.
