Operations Winemaker

Best’s Great Western’s new Operations Winemaker will be joining an iconic Australian producer, recognised for their long history of wine excellence and innovation. Established in 1866, Best’s remains a family owned and run business, with some of the oldest and most notable vineyard resources in the country.

The Operations Winemaker will be working with a diverse mix of winemaking styles and have opportunities for professional development and career growth. Reporting to the Winemaker, this is a hands-on role that will be responsible for coordinating day-to-day cellar operations, managing the laboratory and supervising the winery team.

Part of Victoria’s Great Western wine region and at the edge of the Grampians National Park, the local area is filled with great wine, food, cultural experiences and adventure activities. Within a 2-3 hour drive, you can reach Melbourne; the coastal town of Portland and surrounding area; neighbouring wine regions; and a little further at a 5 hour drive is Adelaide.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Tertiary qualification in Oenology preferred
  • At least 3 years’ winery experience
  • Proficient in production functions, including blending and preparation of wine for bottling
  • Basic laboratory skills and the ability to interpret analytical data
  • Familiarity with winery software, Vintrace experience an advantage
  • Good understanding of vineyard operations
  • Current forklift & driver’s licence
  • Team leadership
  • Hands-on and driven
  • Problem solving and ability to adapt to change
  • Proactive, with attention to detail
  • Physically capable of undertaking cellar duties
  • Capacity to work extended hours during vintage, or as required
  • Ability to travel domestically
